week 5+6

12 oktober 2018 - Kaarst, Duitsland

This week I have started my English and Math pullout groups. With math I am working on memorizing the fact we have 5 fingers on each hand and have 10 fingers in total, the fact that 8+0=8. If I add 0 they still must recount my fingers, they don’t get yet that nothing changes.

With English, I read from their orange reading book. I pronounce the letters and the sounds of the words with them, practice recognizing letters. Afterwards I read them a storing.

About ISR.

ISR is a Private School, which means the government does not fund money in this school. The Parents must pay the school by themselves. This is why the children bring their own pencils, scissors, erasers etc.

Every teacher gets a budget every year to buy materials for (example) crafting lessons.

They parents have to pay for the lunch of their children, or they give the children lunch with them. When children always eat lunch from the cafeteria at school they parents buy a lunch card, and pay for lunch every month. If a child eats lunch for once from the cafeteria the parent buys a lunch coupon. It is my task to scan the lunch cards from all the grade one classes.

DOJO points

All the classes work with dojo points. This is a rewarding system. They can earn points by; quickly unpacking their backpack in the morning, following directions, helping friends, working quietly etc.

They lose dojo’s when they; shout in class, play in the bathroom, run through the hall/class or when they disobey directions.

PE

The children have PE once a week. During PE they work on their physical condition. Not only this, but they also learn how to work together as a team, or learn how to count, recognize colors and shapes.

The school has fall break from 15-19 October.

This weekend I will be heading home for a funeral.
